On April 24th, 2014, Providence Home—established in 1997 for Brunswick County youth who did not have an emergency residential facility available to them during a time of crisis—was visited by two young Brunswick County brothers that wanted to make a donation to our mission. Sage Bengel (age 8) and Justice Bengel (age 10) had received some money from their grandmother, and they each wanted to donate the $5 because “others don’t have anything.” The generous boys were accompanied by their mother, Karen Bengel, who, along with her husband, have obviously been great role models for their children. This is truly the future helping the future. Thank you Sage and Justice for showing that you’re never too young to care or make a difference, and that you’re never too young to build character! What a great example of community!

Providence Home is the result of the efforts of area churches, civic organizations, and volunteers. Grant monies, donations, and fund-raisers were combined to furnish money to purchase and renovate the old Dosher House near Southport into Brunswick County’s only emergency youth shelter.
