Hurricane Relief

The Adventure Kayak Company will offer a kayak tour on Rice Creek Sunday, November 18th meeting at 1:30 PM. All of the participants’ kayak tour fees collected will be donated to Hurricane Sandy disaster relief. The American Red Cross along with all the local chambers, communities, businesses and organizations in our area are teaming up to collect items needed to help those residents who are hurting after Hurricane Sandy.

The Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce is asking for our help! Thanks to Ward Mini Storage and Truck Rental, they are able to collect items at the chamber building (4433 Long Beach Rd., SE; 457-6964) starting November 12th through November 15th from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Local boutique Boo & Roo’s is contacting their customers and asking them to bring donations to the store. She will then bring the donations to the chamber on Thursday, November 15th before 5 p.m. Shop and restaurant owners can do the same!

Bring items in boxes or plastic storage bins, and please, NO cash.

The chamber will take these items to Silver Coast Winery for the main collection point and these items will be delivered to Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department in Brooklyn, New York over the weekend.

Fellow Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce member Scott Gardner, of Accurate Builders from Oak Island, is donating his time amd truck to deliver the items to New York.
