You voted for them, we threw them a party

Southport Magazine is proud to recognize local businesses that our readers think are doing an extraordinary job with the very first Maggie Awards.
It was a cool night in February and the place was all a buzz waiting to unveil Maggie winners at the awards show. Then the celebrating continued during the after party at the Silver Coast Winery Tasting Room on Howe Street.
But, we wouldn’t have had anything to celebrate if not for the good folks in our community voting for their favorites. Here’s how the voting took place:
Over several weeks, 12/1/14, through 11:59 p.m. on 1/16/15, Southport Magazine readers filled out online ballots writing in their favorite responses to over 50 thought provoking questions covering food, shopping and humanitarian efforts. On 1/17/15 we burned the midnight oil tallying over 400 submissions. Soon after, the businesses with the most votes were notified, awards were made, party details were planned and then it was time to celebrate. We awarded over 50 restaurants, shops and businesses at the awards show including the most coveted award: The Golden Maggie, given to the business that received the most votes overall.
