WHEN DID YOU MEET?
EMILY:We met online in November of 2009 we met in person January 2010
DEREK:January 5th 2010
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?
EMILY: No! Ha.
DEREK: I think we definitely felt a connection, but we weren’t really in love until we lived in New Jersey
FAVORITE THING ABOUT EACH OTHER?
EMILY: His heart. He is a very loving man, amazing father, and very compassionate toward others.
DEREK: She is more driven than anybody I have ever met; I am both jealous and envious of that characteristic.
SAME RELIGIOUS BELIEFS?
EMILY: Yes, we both live for Jesus Christ
DEREK: Yes, we are both Christians and strive to glorify God with our marriage.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?
EMILY:I grew up all over the East due to my parents’ jobs. I was born in New Jersey, moved to Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina- then I went out west (Washington State and California) till meeting Derek in Indiana and moving to New Jersey then here to North Carolina. My short answer is- Georgia: its where my Alma Mater is.
DEREK: I grew up in a small town called Warsaw.
FIRST MARRIAGE?
EMILY: Yes
DEREK: Yes this is our First
KIDS? (DO YOU WANT THEM OR DID YOU ALREADY HAVE THEM?)
EMILY: We have 2 boys: Lyric 5 and Jude 3. We are talking about having one more (going for the girl) or fostering.
DEREK: We have 2 and are talking about a 3rd
BEST PART OF BEING MARRIED?
EMILY: Having someone to share mo- ments with. Good and bad, but especially the good. For example, when you lose your grip on something in the kitchen and it falls out of your hand but you do a kick, twist, scream, knock and you catch it and regain balance- being able to look up and saying “Woah, did you see that?!” and having your best friend/husband say “YES! That. Was. AWESOME!” or when your first born walks for the first time. It’s cool to be able to experience and share moments with.
DEREK: Spending every night with my best friend.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF BEING MARRIED?
EMILY: Living selflessly and with the other in mind in all aspects of life or rather trying to
DEREK: Agreeing on dinner plans
WORDS OF ADVICE FOR MARRIED COUPLES?
EMILY: Recognize and accept the fact that you are not going to love your spouse all the time. That’s a common misconcep- tion. In fact, there are going to be times when you really dislike your significant other. There are seasons in marriage. Be quick and sincere in your forgiveness, let go of your need to prove points, and remember you got married for a reason and remember all seasons come to an end.
DEREK: Talk about everything always, and make decisions together not alone. WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR SPOUSE? DEREK: Aside from all the cheesy things like: she’s beautiful, funny, and smart. I fell in love with her, because she never stops making things happen, because she is the most interesting person I’ve ever met, and she drives me to be a better man. |
