2020 Oak Island Coastal Calendars
Available for purchase at Oak Island Recreation Center (3003 E. Oak Island Dr.) $15 Each The Town of Oak Island turns 20 years old this year! To celebrate, the island community was invited to share their very favorite photos of our island paradise over the last twenty years for a chance to be featured in the 2020 OKI Coastal Calendar! Calendars include Oak Island images, where you can find these hidden gems on the island, and indicates Oak Island Parks & Recreation’s largest events for 2020!
Fish Talks
Fort Fisher Aquarium Visits Oak Island: Living Shells. Location: Oak Island Recreation Center (3003 E. Oak Island Dr.) On Thursday, August 8: Sea stars, sea urchins, hermit crabs, welk snails, and more! What do all these coastal creatures have in common? Discover how these lesser known species are finding their homes in sea shells! Oak Island Beach Preservation Society has partnered with Fort Fisher Aquarium to bring fantastic nature to our community residents and guests. All programs will be held at the Oak Island Recreation Center (3003 E. Oak Island Dr.) at 2pm. Programs are FREE to all participants!

Join Becky Skiba with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission to discuss shorebird habitats and Emily Abernethy, Park Ranger, Fort Fisher State Recreation Area to view the Maritime Basin Trail. Oak Island Boys Country Music

Kick back and let loose as Oak Island’s very own “Oak Island Boys Country Music” returns to Oak Island Recreation Center for a family friendly musical performance. This event is free for all interested parties, and will certainly contribute to making this evening one to remember! Music will begin at 6pm.
Oak Island Splash Pad: NOW OPEN
Operating Hours: 10am-6pm Daily
FREE!. Location: Middleton Park Annex (behind Town Hall) The Town of Oak Island would like to invite the island community to help kick off the summer season with the Oak Island Splash Pad at Middleton Park. This new addition was built, in part, thank to the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant. The Oak Island Parks & Recreation Department is thrilled to see this project reach fruition and cannot wait to see the opportunities it will bring to our town. The Oak Island Splash pad is a water activity that features spraying water and water features. Rentals are available for the Oak Island Splash Pad from 6pm-8pm, and are broken into two 1-hour sessions. Participants can elect to reserve the Oak Island Splash Pad for both sessions. Labor Day Surf Off

Celebrate with Oak Island Parks and Recreation this Labor Day Weekend for the 2019 Labor Day Surf Off! Join in on the fun as we send off the summer season with a day of sun, surf, and competition. Categories are available for: guppy, youth girls and boys, teens, as well as adult men and women. Beginners and more seasoned surfers are encouraged to participate. Yacht Dr.) Join Oak Island Parks and Recreation Volunteer staff at the Oak Island Nature Center (52nd and Yacht Drive) for a fun-filled morning from 11:00am-noon. We’ll read a great book or two, then complete a wildly fun craft that you can take home with you! These programs are perfect for young children and FREE to attend with pre-registration; simply call 910-278- 5518.
