Franklin Square Gallery (FSG) is seeking entries for its inaugural Southport Maritime Art Show, to be held Oct. 23 through Nov. 4 at the Gallery. Highlighting the rich maritime heritage of Southport and Brunswick County, the show will focus on our connection to the sea, marine life (including fish, birds, mammals), boats, ships, seascapes and nautical features (such as lighthouses, docks, marinas, and historical images).  Both 2D artists (including photographers) and 3D artists (including those working with mosaics and glass) are urged to enter. All art is for sale.

This event is timed to coincide with preparations for the Southport Wooden Boat Show, which brings numerous visitors to the area on the first Saturday in November. 

The show is open to all artists. A prospectus is available on the Franklin Square Gallery website, www.franklinsquaregallery.com; applications are received and processed online. The deadline for registration is Oct. 9. Work is to be delivered to the Gallery on Friday, Oct. 20.

A total of $1,200 in monetary awards will be given for first, second and third place in both categories, as well as Merit and Honorable Mention Awards. Tony Alderman is the 2D judge; Tonda Jeffcoat is the 3D judge. A reception and awards ceremony will be held Friday, Nov. 3 from 5 to 7 pm at the Gallery.

The Associated Artists of Southport is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cooperative of more than 120 artists, responsible for the preservation and stewardship of the historic Franklin Square Gallery. The Gallery is located at 130 E. West Street, Southport, in the heart of the historic downtown area. Surrounded by live oaks and situated in an historic building that once served as a schoolhouse and city hall, the Gallery offers the community and visitors alike the opportunity to experience the rich artistic culture that thrives in Southport and surrounding areas.  The Gallery is open to the public, free of charge, from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Saturday, and all are welcome.
