A Southport Pirate Love Story
This story submitted by a reader simply defines what makes this place so special. From moving to your vacation spot to finding love in a chance meeting to, well, PIRATES, we thought this tale screamed Southport.
I have to tell you a little bit about our (Ray Warren & I) “Love Story”
Here is a short version of our story: I am from Western Pennsylvania, I was visiting my son and his family in BSL. Ray moved to Southport from Raleigh in 2015. We met in September of 2016 through mutual friends on the Southport Waterfront (American Fish). Our conversation led us to a common thread — we both lost our spouses in 2014. A friendly chat led to date, and for our third date Ray asked me if I had any Pirate garb, I replied “Well yes! I’m from Pittsburgh, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates!“ Ray chuckled and said “No, silly, I mean Arghhh, Southport Pirate garb ! “ He then explained the Steed Bonnet regatta that was coming up soon. So, our next date was the Steed Bonnet Regatta! We had so much fun. He introduced me to his friends and told me stories of his past, how he fell in love with Southport, and how he was falling for me. The next week I had to return to Pennsylvania. We did the long distance dating for three years, and this past fall, I realized how much I loved this Southport Pirate and I decided to make the move to Southport permanently! We now have two Steed Bonnet Regattas behind us and we are looking forward to more in our future. No one knows what the future holds, but to us “LOVE IS:
“Love is remembering the loves of our lives, & keeping your heart open for new Love, taking chances & finding courage to start new chapters in life”
