All for a good cause!
STORY BY: JENNIFER BARNETT
Head down to the foot of Howe Street on October 29th for the 3rd Annual Classic Cars ‘n Rock’n Roll Car Show sponsored by The Cape Fear Cruisers Car Club. Stroll along the river and enjoy the nostalgia of old classics and be sure to brings the kids. There will be events and prizes for Halloween participants—no tricks, but lots of treats!
We are all hoping for blue skies because this is one of Southport’s favorite events, but in the case of inclement weather a rain date has been set for November 5, 2016. The show will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. All awards will be handed out at 6:30 p.m. This is a participant judged show, open to all cars and trucks so all ballots need to be in by 4:00 p.m. The awards are sponsored by Local Businesses and Enthusiasts and here is the list of awards given; Top 40 Award, Best Pre 1946 Vehicle – STOCK , Best Pre 1946 Vehicle (Modified), Best 1947 – 1987 – STOCK , Best 1947 – 1987 (Modified), Best 1988 – Present – STOCK, Best 1988 – Present (Modified), Best Survivor, Best Rat Rod, Best in Show, Mayor’s Choice, Best Costume (Car).
Southport is lucky to have The Cape Fear Cruiser’s organization based here, as they support so many of our local charities. For example Providence Home, Sarah’s Choice, and the Brunswick Toy Run have all been recipients in the past. So come out and join them for a beautiful evening of cruisin’ and dancing for a good cause!
Now don’t worry, there are plenty of opportunities for non-car owners to participate, too! The Car Club will have treats for the children in costume from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. There will be entertainment, as DJ Billy V spins the hits from the 50’s and 60’s from Noon until 4:00p.m. In the evening, the band South Street will play from 4:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. There will be a Dance Contest at 6:00 p.m. Here is a list of awards you can win, so get your costumes together and your dancing shoes on; Dance Contest Award, Best Costume (Male), Best Costume (Female), Best Costume (Child).
Registration will be from noon until 3:00 pm at Old Service Station, on the corner of Howe and 9th Streets (if available), the back up location may be the Gazebo at BBT downtown.
