Virginia transplant finds her way to sunny Southport
Q: How long has Deborah’s Place been in business?
A: We have been in business since 1997. We opened the first store in Ashland Va. Then moved to Fredericksburg, VA where we had two stores. Then in 2010 we decided to move to Southport and re-opened Deborah’s Place in Southport in 2012.
Q: Describe what kind of store Deborah’s Place is?
A: Deborah’s is a ladies accessories, gift, garden and home décor shop. I like to have a little bit of everything it keeps it fun.
Q: Tell us about some of the unique items that you carry?
A: Well, you can stop by Deborah’s and we’ll accessorize you for a party, find you a hostess gift (maybe a funny word towel), wine accessories or for your garden how about a concrete statue or bird bath? If you love it, it’s unique to you.
Q: How do you pick out what you want to carry in the store?
A: Mostly by gut. I’ve been buying gifts for people since I was a little kid. I like to have something for everyone; it’s the fun part of my job.
Q: What do you sell the most of at Deborah’s Place?
A: I sell a lot of ladies scarves, jewelry, purses, hats and yes, a lot of tea towels. I try to find great products at good prices and pass it on to my customers.
Q: Are you expecting any new items in over the summer?
A: I’m always on the lookout for something different and fun. I get new items in all year; I like to keep it fresh and new
Favorite Food:
Seafood (Lobster, Scallops & Shrimp) – Also, my husband is a great cook so whatever he makes me is great; I can’t deprive him of his passion. Ha!
Favorite Book:
I love Jack London, I started reading his books when I was very young and they have always stayed with me.
Favorite Musician/Band:
I like all types of music – jazz to classical, but I love the old soul Motown sound I grew up with.
Favorite Place to travel:
MAINE (in the summer only – ha), I love the rocky coast and yes LOBSTER, LOBSTER, LOBSTER.
Favorite thing about Southport:
Southport has a great mix of people from the locals, tourist and those that have been coming here for years. Southport has been discovered!! It’s friendly, great weather, and on the water. (Definitely – a no brainer)
