Dog Games Coming To Southport
The Sergei Foundation Dog Games are coming to Southport’s Yacht Basin on Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
This year’s event has moved to the springtime rather than the November timeframe last year. ““We wanted to get out of hurricane season,” said Karen Fullerton, founder and CEO of The Sergei Foundation. “Moving to the end of March provides the much-needed outing for pets after winter season and a perfect spring-fever event.”
The Sergei Foundation’s Dog Games has been a one-of-a-kind dog festival since 2014, originating in the Triad. It is designed for pets to participate in dog sports such as dock jumping, frisbee and agility; a unique offering from typical pet-related events. This fundraising event (via entry donation) assists the foundation’s mission “to save companion pets’ lives by providing veterinary financial assistance to families unable to afford critical treatment for their dog or cat.”
This year’s festival will feature dock jumping, mini-lure ( a 40-yard dash), Up Dog Challenge and, for the less active pooches, a pie eating contest and a longest kissing contest. Radio personality Suzanne Jalot from 103.7 FM will be on hand to MC the event.
Events have an entry fee and some require pre-registration. See the Dog Games website at www.ncdoggames.com for details.
