Holiday Ornament
While we doubt any of us will be forgetting 2020 anytime soon, we feel like finishing off the year accentuating the positive with a Christmas memento is a fine idea. The Southport Historical Society’s Holiday Ornaments are a great way to remind ourselves why we are lucky to live here no matter what the past year has thrown our way.
Two ornaments are available, one from 2018 called “A Southport Christmas” features the city tree at the end of Howe Street and a new one for 2020, “The Garrison House” features, well, The Garrison House decked out in all its Christmas finery.
“Both ornaments feature artwork by local artist Ricky Evans, which he graciously allows us to use free of charge, which we greatly appreciate,” said Phil Fravel with the Southport Historical Society.
This year the ornaments are available on the Store page of the Southport Historical Society’s website (www.southporthistoricalsociety.org) for $16 plus tax and shipping. Proceeds go to support the Society’s year-long programs.
The pandemic has hardly slowed the Southport Historical Society this year. While moving its offerings online, the Society has kept up a steady stream programs. If you are interested it helping to share and celebrate Southport’s history, Society memberships are available on the above website as well.
“There are many volunteer opportunities available,” said Fravel, “from Committee Membership to portraying Southport’s Historic Figures in one of our virtual presentations.”
