Light up the Night
If you like sparkly things, then you have to come out for the Flotilla and the Fire Engine Parade in Southport. They both are fun for the whole family. So plan to bring your chair, blanket and a nice hot cup of cocoa.
Christmas Flotilla
December 14, 7 p.m.
Celebrate Southport’s nautical history! Come early and enjoy one of many activities in the city, shop and dine in the quaint, seaside town. Bring a chair, find a bench, and select your viewing spot along the historic banks of the Cape Fear River. Boats of all sizes (power, paddle and sail) will be dressed and lit up in holiday finery. Lights twinkling on the water and lighting the night sky. Thousands of bulbs will illuminate the water and reflect these waterway creations.
Cheer for your favorite boats judged by guest judges, students from the Southport Elementary School Art Class.
Thanks to the City of Southport and the Cape Fear Yacht Club for organizing the event. The boats will travel down the inter-coastal waterway, Cape Fear River from Southport Marina/Old Yacht Basin to Kingsley Street, Southport. You can watch from the banks of the shore, The Yacht Basin, Waterfront Park or the City Pier.
There will be music and MC announcing and introducing the boats, sponsored by Southport Magazine.
