Boiling Springs Lake is kicking off their summer with a little friendly competition. Local bands are invited to participate in the city’s own Battle of the Bands on June 7th at Spring Lake Park off Pine Rd. So far there are five bands signed up for the event but Melina Trivette with the Boiling Springs Lake Event Committee thinks there will be more to sign up in the days leading up to the show this Saturday. As of last week, the bands participating are Joe’s Motel, Heather Skipper, EBS, Bergs End and Linda Snyder.
So far, the lineup promises to entertain the crowd with a variety of musical styles and formats. EBS NC is a three-man band that specializes in music influenced by the rock, country and folk songs they listened to growing up. Meanwhile guitarist and singer/songwriter Linda Snyder describes her music as light rock, country and gospel.
Bands are able to enter the competition for free and the audience members wishing to vote for their favorite band only need to pay $1 for a ticket or $5 for six tickets. The proceeds from the show will go to the Mitch Prince Law Enforcement Scholarship—a fund for local law enforcement officers established to honor officer Mitchell Prince, who died in the line of duty in 2005. The first place winner at Battle of the Bands will receive a $400 cash prize while the second place band will get $100.
Snyder, who also plays her music at The Oasis Bar and Grill, Southport Moose Lodge as well as other charitable events—particularly those that benefit veterans like her husband—says the prize and competition of the show is not the reason she is participating. Snyder says she and her husband are all about the community. “We are residents here in Boiling Springs Lake and it is just a great time to lend our support to the community through the music,” she said. “It’s fulfilling. We are all about the community we live in.”
Eddie Wayne, guitarist for EBS, agrees, saying the band is happy to raise funds for the park, particularly because the event is just as entertaining to them as it is to the audience. “We enjoy listening to the other bands as much as playing there ourselves,” Wayne said.
The event starts at 11 a.m. at Spring Lake Park with food and ice cream provided, guaranteeing a fun day for audience members and the bands.
