New City Manager
Hello Southport Magazine readers,
My name is Bruce Oakley and I started as the new Southport City Manager on September 1. The move to Southport has been great and everyone has been so welcoming and helpful. It’s such a beautiful place with the friendliest people. I look forward to becoming more involved with the community as my family and I settle in here.
Before coming to Southport, I was the Town Manger in Oak Ridge, NC for almost thirteen years. Oak Ridge is a suburb of Greensboro, which is where I was born and raised and where I resided while working for Oak Ridge. A lot of friends and family from the Greensboro area frequent Southport, so I will never feel too far from my roots. They all tell me how lucky I am to be moving to such a special place and that they can’t wait to visit.
My wife Jill and my daughter Miranda are just as excited as I am about relocating to Southport. Jill is a licensed real estate broker and is also excited about getting involved in the community. Miranda is a sophomore biology/pre-med major at UNC-Greensboro and hopes to volunteer at Dosher Hospital during her summer breaks.
Please feel free to call, email, or come by City Hall and share any suggestions, concerns or questions you have with me. I will work hard with the Board of Alderman, the City staff, and the citizens of Southport to make sure it continues to be a great place to live, work, and play.
Sincerely, Bruce Oakley
