It’s the 12th annual Labor Day Surf Off at Oak Island!
If you enjoy the ocean breeze, set aside Sept. 5 for this community spectacle!
The event will be held at Ocean Crest Pier and the surf off competition will begin at 8 a.m. All age groups and all surfing abilities are welcome to participate in the event. Observers are encouraged to attend! There will also be a SUP (standup paddle boarding) race beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Winners of these competitions will receive surfboard medals. Other prizes include surfing accessories such as rash guards, t-shirts, and other gear. There will be categories for boys, girls, men, and women in the surf off competition. Each division will be separated into 15 minute heats. Four judges will rate each participant. The final heat in each division will be 20 minutes long.
Registration has begun! Until Sept. 2, the entry fee is $25 plus $5 per additional competition category. After Sept. 2, an additional $10 will be added to the above prices as a late registration fee. Be sure to register before the event! There will be no registration the day of the Labor Day Surf Off. Forms for registration can be acquired at the Oak Island Parks and Recreation Center, at local surf shops, or can be printed from the internet. Packet pick-up will be Sept. 4 and will be held at Middleton Park shelter (beside the playground) from 6-7:30 p.m. After the surf off is concluded, stay around and enjoy live entertainment at Middleton Park that night.
