Celebrating Summer in Southport

Cindy Brochure, the director of tourism and economic development for the City of Southport, recognizes the opportunity our coastal gem hosts in the summer months: tourists’ dollars. Yet she also recognized a problem tourists run into while vacationing in nearby beach towns, such as Oak Island and Ocean Isle Beach. Many who rent houses or hotel rooms in these towns aren’t even aware of Southport lying only miles away, she says. Likewise, those who do stay on the beach until 4 p.m. or even later, soaking up all the rays they can during their time in coastal North Carolina. When Southport shops and restaurants close their doors at 5 p.m., that leaves the tourists no time to shower and come down to our city to peruse such local businesses.

Brochure’s solution is a simple campaign: Southport Summer. She beckons visitors to “get into a Southport state of mind,” a slogan sure to stick long after the sunblock and sand have been washed away. With rack cards placed in every rental property this summer, Brochure and the city will help promote later hours for businesses in Southport this season. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the following businesses will be open until 6 p.m. or later:
