As the summer winds down our local events are winding up! As far a concerts in the park go, one of our favorites is Oak Island’s Live & Local series in Middleton Park. This year Southport has joined in on the fall fun, remixing its summer series to a new Fall Concert Series. 

Oak Island’s Live & Local takes summer favorites like the Farmers Market and Summer Concert Series and re-imagines them in a format more accessible to working locals. Live & Local features a Farmers Market with all kinds of vendors, food trucks and a concert each Saturday night from Sept. 16 through Oct. 28, with the exception of Oct. 21 (when the park will be used for a large Pledge The Pink event, which you can read about in the October issue). The market runs from 4-8 pm and the concert from 6-8 pm. The events are on the Middleton Park fields, 4610 E. Dolphin Dr. and are free to attend. 

After seeing how hot it was in Franklin Square Park for its summer concerts, the City of Southport has kicked off the Fall Concert Series on Thursday nights from Aug. 31 through Nov. 16. The shows will remain in Franklin Square Park and run from 6-8 pm. Food will be available for sale at some shows; see the City’s event website at www.cityofsouthport/southport-concert-series to verify what nights will host a food truck.
