Oak Island Fun

The Town of Oak Island has planned plenty of fun holiday activities for the whole family to enjoy. Have supper with Santa or enjoy a flashlight candy cane hunt!  Make sure to catch the Christmas Parade by the Sea and cheer on your favorite float. Take a look at amazing gingerbread houses on display and find unique arts and crafts at the holiday market. 

Christmas by the Sea Parade

. The Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Oak Island organizes this annual holiday event, a must-see during the busy holiday season on the first Saturday in December (12/7/19) on Oak Island. The parade steps off at 2 p.m. on the 2.4 mile parade route from Oak Island Town Hall, traveling east on Oak Island Drive to McGlamery Street.

The parade showcases the businesses and organizations in our community. The hometown feel of the parade makes it a favorite event of locals, second homeowners and visitors.  A float decorating contest will be held. Floats will be judged on criteria: color, theme, overall beauty and originality will be judged separately. An Overall Judges Award will be given. There will also be 1st and 2nd places awarded in the following categories: Group/Club/Non Profit, For Profit and Golf Cart Division. Judging will begin at 12:30p.m. They will not judge commercially rented floats.

Holiday Craft Market

December 7,  The Chamber invites you to you to join them in making this holiday season magical by participating in the 2019 Holiday Craft Market! This year’s program will be held at the Oak Island Recreation Center, located at 3003 E. Oak Island Dr., and will offer unique holiday shopping.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

Spend an evening with friends and family as The Town and OKI Parks and Recreation ushers in the magic of the holiday season at Middleton Park on Friday, December 6th, 2019. The Town of Oak Island’s annual Tree lighting will be held at Middleton Park. Live entertainment will begin at 5:30pm on Friday, December 6, followed by the tree lighting at 6 p.m. There will be special guests and much more for all ages.

Relax before the Christmas rush as the community comes together to enjoy FREE live entertainment with local music, crafts, and a visit from good ole’ Santa! Hot chocolate will be available for event goers while supplies last.

Supper with Santa

Enjoy a holiday meal with Santa before the big day! Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Wallace Catering to host a holiday meal with Santa and our area youth on Friday, December 13, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This also includes a seasonal craft station and the reading of The Night Before Christmas. Tickets are available at the Oak Island Recreation Center, 3003 E. Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC. Tickets are $8 for residents and $10 for non-residents. All individuals in attendance must purchase a ticket to enter event- even if they do not intend to eat

The dinner will be held at the Oak Island Community Center at SE 47th Street. 

Gingerbread Beach Houses

Entries will be on display and free to view at OKI Recreation Center December 5-14. Don’t miss out on the fun this holiday season with Oak Island’s 3rd Annual Gingerbread Beach House Contest! Oak Island Parks & Recreation has partnered with Nancy Jo’s Homemade Bakery for a community wide contest that will be sure to make this holiday season especially sweet. With a variety of categories; this year’s contest is sure to amaze as participants bring their creativity to the kitchen.

Candycane Flashlight Hunt

Don’t miss this great family holiday hunt on Friday, December 13th from 6 pm to 8 pm. Find candy canes and green & red eggs on the softball field at Bill Smith Park while enjoying hot chocolate and a visit with Santa.
