Save Salty Dog Park

Volunteers needed to save Oak Island Dog Park

Story courtesy Oak Island Parks & Rec

In past years The Salty Dog Park has been organized by a private nonprofit organization. Due to a retiring membership base, the physical demands required for upkeep of the park have simply become more challenging than their organization is able to manage. While we are disappointed to hear this decision, we respect and understand that this chapter in their lives has come to a close.

Their organization has since decided to cease managing the park in August of 2019. Those interested in taking over the responsibilities of the Salty Dog Park, are enthusiastically welcome to do so. If you are interested in helping the dog park remain open call OKI Recreation Center to be added to a volunteer list with a name, phone number, and email address. Volunteers are needed for all of the following for both the small and large park spaces: mowing, filling in holes, picking up sticks & pine cones, repairs, etc. If you are interested in taking over this project to allow local pups to continue to utilize the Salty Dog Park, call  Oak Island Rec Center at (910) 278-5518 to become a volunteer for the park!
